The Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP) at the University of Tokyo was
established in 2004, and offers a two-year Master’s Program for training
students most of whom aim at a public service career. In 2010, GraSPP
started its Master of Public Policy, International Program (MPP/IP), taught
in English. As of October 2012, more than a third of the student body of
GraSPP (over 80 out of about 240 students) are international students from
over 30 countries and economies in the world; roughly half of them are from
ministries, central banks and other public organizations in East Asia and
elsewhere.
GraSPP is a partner school of the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate
Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP), Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship
Program (ADB-JSP) and Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA). We
take 8 JJ/WBGSP scholars, 2-3 ADB-JSP scholars and 5-7 JISPA scholars
annually.
I would appreciate it very much if you could circulate in your organization
basic information about an opportunity to study at the University of Tokyo.
We would welcome your recommendation of promising candidates from your
organization for our MPP/IP program. Candidates are expected to (a) be
under 45 years old, although we most welcome those under 35; (b) have work
experience of more than 2 (preferably 3) years after a bachelor’s or a
master’s degree; and (c) have strong English proficiency in writing,
speaking, and debating. Candidates with a background in economics are
preferred as our program includes required core courses in economics. As we
aim to promote full diversity among our student body, we especially
encourage female candidates.
